  • Belgium filed an intervention request of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) after Ford Genk had to close down, because of which 5,111 lost their jobs. The European Commission now judges 4,500 workers could be helped to find another job thanks to individual aid, training courses and bonuses. The European Parliament and the EU Council of Ministers now have to approve this proposal.
  • This was announced by Marianne Thyssen as well as: "This proposal to release more than €6 million from the EGF should help 4,500 fired employees in preparing for a new job and get through this difficult transition phase. The past few years, the production of motor vehicles in Europe has decreased considerably and the automobile industry is currently undergoing structural changes because of globalisation", said Ms Thyssen. The proposal now has to be greenlighted by the European Parliament and the EU member states.
  • the closure of Ford Genk increased the unemployment rate in the Limburg province by 1.8 to 2%.

Europski program klimatskih promjena za povećanje cijena CO²

De Tijd: EU akkoord over nieuw klimaatplan

  • At the climate conference in Paris, the foundation should be laid for worldwide agreements to limit global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius. The European leaders already approved an ambitious climate plan in October last year. By 2030, CO² emissions should have decreased by 40% compared to 1990. On Wednesday, the European Commission will present a plan to accomplish that ambition. A thorough reform of the European market for emission rights is needed. The European Parliament already approved a strategic reserve of emission rights. The European Commission proposes to decrease each year the number of emission rights by 2.2% as of 2021.

Potrebna prilagodba klasifikacije energetskih naljepnica

De Standaard: Indeling energielabels gewijzigd

  • The European Commission wants to adjust the classification of the energy labels, which had become unclear because the household appliances are becoming increasingly more economical. "When one buys a device from the 'A+' category, one is wrong to think it is a very economical appliance," the European Commission says. "In reality, it could be one of the least economical appliances on the market." The European Commission's proposal now has to be approved by the European Parliament and the EU member states. Pelješki most / Peljesac Bridge

Dnevnik

  • Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic announced that tenders for construction of the planned Peljesac Bridge should be invited by the end of the year, adding that construction should start next year. HR MEP Dubravka SUICA (EPP) expressed hope that the Government secured financing for the project and that the announcement is not an election ruse. HR MEP Ivana MALETIC (EPP) criticized the Government, stressing that the project could have been started sooner. EU should finance up to 85% of the project and construction should be completed by 2019. Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Sinisa Hajdas Doncic pointed out that the planned bridge is the cheapest solution for connecting the south of Croatia with the rest of the country.
